WPC (wood plastic composite) contains typically anywhere from 30% to 60% wood fibers and 70% to 40% plastic. They are usually very rigid and often are pigmented to look like natural wood. Sometimes they are also foamed, i.e., air is added during processing to reduce the weight of the final article.
Features of Finished Product
The new plastic-wood composite is similar to wood in look, feeling and smell, but with better performance than wood.
Resistant to water, insects, corrosion and mildew
Ideal for applications in high moisture environments
Lightweight and durable
Superior dimensional stability
Recyclable to meet environmental protection requirements
No surface finishing is required
Same processing methods as for plastic
Applications
Applications where wood composites have a substantial advantage over natural wood are outdoor end uses where the composite is in contact with the ground or where there is continuous exposure to the weather. Examples include patio decks, fences, landscape ties, patio furniture, road noise barriers, railroad ties, boat docks, and many others.
